KVM virtualizes compute resources
Kernel-based Virtual Machine technology allows Linux to act as a hypervisor and run isolated virtual machines. A hosting plan still determines the allocated CPU, memory, storage and network resources.
Isolation does not guarantee workload performance
Performance depends on host capacity, allocation policy, storage, network and application behavior. Validate the offered resources and measure the workload instead of relying on the hypervisor name.
Administrative access creates responsibility
Root or administrator access supports custom software and system configuration. It also makes patching, firewall policy, credentials, monitoring and recovery part of the customer operating model unless management is included.
Choose KVM from compatibility and control
Confirm operating-system images, virtualization-dependent features, resource limits, backup scope and migration needs. Use a dedicated server when machine-level control or sustained resource requirements justify it.
Understand allocation without assuming physical exclusivity
A KVM virtual machine runs a guest operating system on virtual hardware. The host still supplies the underlying CPU, memory, disks and network. A count of virtual CPUs does not by itself state that the same number of physical cores is reserved exclusively for that customer.
Ask about the resource model when a workload depends on sustained compute or latency. Measure the application’s actual response time, memory pressure and storage behavior. Choose a dedicated server when machine-level exclusivity is a requirement; do not infer physical isolation from administrative access inside a guest.
